Douglas Tappin

Founder & Executive Director

Douglas Tappin was born and educated in the UK. A former Barrister, he worked as a Commercial Attorney for 11 years, including as In-House Counsel for Island Records, Universal Music, and Zomba/Jive International. Tappin then earned an additional post-graduate degree, culminating in the dissertation That There Might Be Inspiration: an innovative examination of the power of musical-dramatic art to transform individuals, communities, and culture, including through the works of Wagner, Puccini, Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Rice, Boublil, and Schönberg.


Tappin has over 20 years of experience as a writer/composer. He has written/composed nine musical-dramatic works including I Dream; DIVA; and We, the People. He also consults with educational, business, and cultural organizations on writing, composition, and the role musical-drama can play in sparking reflection, emotion, and positive community engagement. Tappin has worked in collaboration with Greg Phillinganes (musical director for Stevie Wonder and the late Michael Jackson) and Grammy-nominated orchestrator Carl Marsh.


A member of the Dramatists Guild of America, Douglas lives in Atlanta with his wife, Anna, and two children. His mission is to inspire with works that catalyze love, hope, justice, and reconciliation.
