Ways MDAF has impacted communities and created educational opportunities recently...
· Facilitated workshops for high school students in Dallas through the Black Academy of Arts and Letters, helping them to create a new, unique theatre piece.
· Led a creative process workshop for fifth-grade students at an Apollo-partnered elementary school.
· Conducted, by invitation of the Apollo Theater, a two-week, Tier 2 Equity development work session of I DREAM, culminating in three presentations of I Dream performed for 167 invited guests. Featured cast included Jennie Harney (Hamilton, The Color Purple) and Nathanael Stampley (Cats, The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, The Lion King).
· Delivered a talkback on I DREAM’s creative process and journey to students from the Columbia University Black Theatre Ensemble in New York City, facilitated through our Apollo Theater Partnership.
· Provided access to the Apollo Theater’s student apprentices to shadow the I DREAM Creative Team during the two-week workshop.
· Led a creative process workshop for fifth-grade students at an Apollo-partnered elementary school.
· Engaged 55 aspiring young actors and artists, including high school and college students, in work sessions of DIVA, a new musical by Douglas Tappin and Allison Horsely, in partnership with the Broadway Dreams Foundation. These work sessions took place in Atlanta, Dallas, and Charlotte, culminating in staged presentations to over 550 audience members.
· Taught workshops on inspiration and craft to over 100 students across 3 cities, available to high school, college, and continuing education students through the partnership with Broadway Dreams.
